Helen Lavenia Eller

Helen Lavenia Hash Eller, 87, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, December 7, 2015. She was born in Roanoke, a daughter of the late Thomas and Emma Hash and had been an area resident all of her life. Helen was employed at Lewis-Gale Medical Center for over twenty years prior to retiring and was a member of Waverly Place Baptist Church. She was a member of the American War Mothers, and volunteered at the Salem VA Medical Center and S.H.A.R.E. until her health prevented. She loved to work in the yard, travel, and work with technical business issues. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Daniel E. Eller, Jr., and her brothers, Milton, Benjamin and Thomas R. Hash. She is survived by son, Daniel E. Eller, III and wife Mary; daughter, Emma L. Grisso; grandsons, Daniel E. Eller, IV and Dustin D. Eller; great-grandchildren, Daniel E. Eller, V, and Sarah Nies; three great-great grandchildren; a niece, Elizabeth Ann Stegall, and a nephew, T.R. Hash. The family would like to extend sincere thanks and appreciation to her personal physician, Dr. Nina K. Sweeney, special care giver Shermaine Greenhowe, and to the staff of 7South, Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 12, 2015 at the Chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. Pastor Ed Watkins will officiate. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM, Friday, December 11, 2015 at the funeral home.
