Helen Earles Deaner

Helen E. Deaner, 91, of Salem, went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 15, 2016. Mrs. Deaner was born Wednesday, April 9, 1924, in Chillicothe, Ohio, to the late Samuel and Willie Earles. Helen graduated from the William Byrd High School in Vinton, in 1942, and moved to Richmond, to find employment. In December of 1947, she married her husband, Cecil S. Deaner, Sr., who died in 1968. She worked for the City of Richmond and Chippenham Hospital until her retirement. After retirement, she followed her plans to live in the Richfield Retirement Community with her sisters. Survivors include her son, Cecil S. Deaner, Jr. and his wife, Collen of Abilene, Texas; granddaughter, Angela Deaner; grandson, Timothy Deaner; great-grandson, Liam Jamie Deaner; sister-in-law, Frances Treadway; and several nephews, nieces, and cousins. A period of visitation will be held Monday, January 18, 2016, from 6 to 8 p.m. at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, January 19, 2016, beginning at noon at Sherwood Memorial Park.
