Hazel Wheeler Shelor, 92, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 1, 2023. Born and raised in Salem, Va., she was the daughter of the late Henry Travis Wheeler and Lou Emma Kingery Wheeler.
Hazel is proceeded in death by her husband, Lewis Harvey Shelor; brothers, Cecil Wheeler, John Wesley J.W. Wheeler, Allen Wheeler, Walton Wheeler, Albert Tiki Wheeler, and Robert Bob Wheeler; and sisters, Jessie Wheeler Duke, Dorothy Dot Wheeler Bowen, Virginia Jenny Wheeler Smith, Emma Wheeler Craft, Ruth Wheeler Taliferro, and Gladys Wheeler McCoy.
She is survived by her son, Barry Shelor, and wife, Cindy; son, Jeff Shelor, and wife, Naomi; daughter, Cindy Dawkins Welsh, and husband, Jeremy; and special niece/daughter, Lugene Smith. Grandchildren include Jessica McDaniel and husband, Brad, Matthew Matt Shelor, and wife, Katie, and Sarah Dawkins. Great-grandchildren include Brantley, Rileigh, and Colbie McDaniel and Amelia and Cooper Shelor; brother-in-law, Sherman Shelor, and wife, Betty; special niece, Brenda Gregory; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Hazel loved and cherished her family, and they brought her the most happiness in her life.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for her care from Friendship Southwest Roanoke and Good Samaritan Hospice.
John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home will hold a graveside service at Sherwood Memorial Park, 1250 E. Main Street, Salem on December 9, 2023, at 2 p.m. with Reverend Neil Wheeler (nephew) officiating.
