In the early morning hours of Saturday, April 21, our precious Mom slipped away into eternal peace and rest in the arms of Jesus and she was reunited with our Dad Lewis, her husband of 58 years. He preceded her on April 11, 1998. Mom was born to Henry and Blanche Grubb on Oct 1, 1919. They also preceded her as did an infant sister. She had three other sisters Ruby Lackey, Juanita Gravely and Harriett Martin (Winston). Harriett survives. Moms two brothers Curtis Grubb and Wayne Grubb preceded her. Nieces and nephews from her siblings also survive. Mom and Dad had two children, a son Peyton Hash (Bluefield, WVA) and a daughter, Rosemary Belvin (Salem, VA). She also had a favorite son-in-law, Robert Belvin (Salem, VA). From the children she had six grandchildren - Tony Hash (Virginia Beach, VA), Jennifer Norford (Denver, CO), AD Norford and wife Kathy (Centennial, CO), Trevor Norford (Salem, VA), Courtney Hash (Fairmont, WVA) and David Hash (Roanoke, VA). From the grandchildren she had six great grandchildren Maddy and Luke Norford (Centennial, CO), Deija Hash and Ava Turpin (Fairmont, WVA), Brayden Turpin (Roanoke, VA) and Savannah Hash (Salem, VA). Mom also had several extended family ties Chris Custer (Hardy, VA), Sandra Hash-Scull (Daleville, VA) and Diane Webb and her son Dakota King (TN). Over the past year she was blessed with loving caregivers Gina Rucker (Moneta, VA), Bernice Campbell, Joann Jones, Lisa Britt and Rachel Carr (all from Roanoke, VA) and Norma Hunley (New Castle, VA). Mom was a faithful and sweet servant of God. She taught and mentored children at Tabernacle Baptist Church for over 68 years. She was also instrumental in establishing the first preschool at the church. She was loved by all who knew her, from the youngest to the oldest. In addition to her work with children, she served at various times as church secretary, organist and pianist. We will miss you, Mom, but we know you are dancing in Heaven with Dad and that all is good. Flowers are appreciated, but if you wish, gifts may be made to the Tabernacle Baptist Church Preschool, 1923 East Main Street, Salem, VA 24153 in Moms memory. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 24 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, April 25 2012 at 11 a.m. in the funeral homes chapel. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Rev. Rick Elmore and the Most Reverent Anthony Hash will officiate. The Hash family is being served by John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, 540-389-5441.
