Hazel Judd Downing

Hazel Judd Downing, 98, of Salem, Va. and formerly of Front Royal, Va., passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2022, at the Joseph C. Thomas Center. Hazel graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1944. She was a volunteer at the Warren Memorial Hospital in Front Royal with 40,000 hours of service. She was also a member of the Bowling Green Country Club in Front Royal. She enjoyed playing golf and made three holes-in-one as well as an eagle. She also liked to play Bingo. Preceding her in death were her parents, Irvin W. Sr. and Myrtle Grimsley Judd; husband, Giles Cook Downing; sister, Margaret Judd Pugh; and son-in-law, Jack B. Trout. Her surviving family includes her daughter, Karen D. Trout; granddaughter, Angela Katsilianos (Ike); great-grandson, Alex Katsilianos; brothers, Paul Judd (Shirley) and Irvin W. Judd Jr.; and several nieces and nephews. Special appreciation is extended to her family at the Joseph C. Thomas Center where she resided for over two years. All services are being held privately by the family.
