On Thursday, April 18, 2024, Harold Papa Stull, 78, of Salem, Virginia, left his earthly home to be with the Lord while surrounded by his loving family. Born April 27, 1945, in Roanoke, Va., to the late Madeline Shilling Hall, he is also preceded in death by his cousin, Danny Shilling, who was like a brother to him. Harold grew up in Salem and graduated from Andrew Lewis High School. After graduation, Harold enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Charleston AFB in South Carolina. He finished at the top of his class as an aircraft mechanic and achieved the rank of Sgt. After an honorable discharge, he continued his career as a diesel/large engine mechanic for Aaron J. Conner General Contractor. He took a level of pride in his work, whether at his job or around the house, that was second to none. He was fully dedicated and uncompromising when it came to his family. Harold loved the outdoors, cutting the grass and washing cars. He was an enthusiastic sports fan, especially UVA Cavaliers football and basketball, and considered himself, One True Hoo. Harold loved his 1971 Boss Mustang so much that he bought it twice! Harold adored his family and cherished the time spent with them. He was a fully dedicated father, even after the children were grown, and a doting Papa to his grandchildren. Harold was an inspiration to so many and lived a life full of love, loyalty, kindness, integrity, honor, and perseverance. In fact, Harold WAS the definition of a family man! Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 52 years, Linda Martin Stull; daughters, Kim Rhinehardt and husband, Bob, Karen Critzer and husband, Mark, and Leigh Ogle; grandchildren, Ashley Barnes and husband, Lucas, Derek Critzer, Jordan Ogle, Sydney Ogle, and Ty Ogle; sisters-in-law, Judy Martin, Peggy Brown and Patsy Lively; brother, Robert Stull and wife, Patsy. A Celebration of Life service with military honors will be conducted on Monday, April 22, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home, Salem, with Pastor Aaron Mansfield officiating.
