Harold Ward (Richie) Richardson II, (1957-2021), longtime resident of Salem and Roanoke, passed away on Sunday, June 13, 2021, at the age of 63.
Born in Salem, Virginia on October 1, 1957, to Harold and Lorraine Wimmer Richardson, he was a graduate of Glenvar High School and East Tennessee State University, Johnson City, TN, where he met his wife Sherry. Predeceased by his parents, Richie is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Sherry; daughter Summer; sisters Jan Jarrett and Ann Rule, and several nieces and nephews.
Richie worked in his familys business, The Green Market in Salem, VA, and The Orange Market convenience stores in the Roanoke Valley for fifteen years and later in property management and commercial real estate sales for RealStar Realtors. He was a strong proponent of working hard as a way of life. He believed in giving his customers the best service and went above and beyond to ensure this occurred. Nowhere was this more evident than the care and selfless devotion he consistently gave his family.
An avid golfer from the age of 13, Richies favorite pastime was golfing with friends at Hidden Valley Country Club. Other lifetime passions included attending football games at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he was a season ticket holder for thirty years, vacationing in Daytona Beach Shores, Florida, and rescuing retired racing greyhounds. For several years, Richie and his wife transported retired racers from Florida to loving homes in Georgia, North Carolina, and Virginia, in their car, which he named The Greyhound Express.
