H. Shelton Guthrie, Jr.

H. Shelton Guthrie Jr, of Roanoke County, passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2023. He was preceded in death by his father, Herman Guthrie Sr; mother, Ora Guthrie; and sister, Judy Perdue. He is survived by his nephew, Doug Perdue and wife, Samantha Perdue, and their son, Will; his niece, Anne McCroskey, her husband, Eric McCroskey, and their daughter, Abigail; and his daughters, Mary Vargas Machaj and Sarah Thomas, and families. Shelton was retired from Precision Steel in Roanoke. Shelton loved nothing more than spending time with his great nephew and niece, and watching them grow up. He would light up every time he saw them. In addition to his love for them, he loved his sweet yorkie, Jasmine, who was his best friend. He was the type of person who would drop whatever he was doing to help his family or friends. Shelton genuinely cared for others and made sure they knew that by his generosity. Shelton will truly be missed by all who knew him. The family will receive guests on Saturday, August 19, 2023, from 5-7 pm at John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home in Salem, Va.
