Guy R. Dunbar, Jr., 82, of Salem, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 after a long illness. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. He was a long time member of the First Christian Church in Salem and for many years served as deacon. He worked for many years as an accountant for Adams Construction Company. He was a kind and loving man who will be missed by many. He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy R. Dunbar, Sr. and Carrie Clarkson Dunbar; his sister, Hazel Hicks; brother, Marvin Dunbar; and sister, Shirley Rose. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Virginia M. Dunbar (Opal); daughter, Rozena Holdren and her husband, Calvin; son, Richard Dunbar and his wife, Jeania; grandson, Russell Dunbar; sisters, Ellen Snidow and Juanita Shelton; nieces, Gayle Rose and Margaret Shelton; nephews, Garnett Arrington, Bryan Rose, and Kenneth Rose; and several great nieces and great nephews. The family will receive guests at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem on Sunday, November 25, 2012 from 4 to 6 p.m. The service will be held in the Chapel on Monday, November 26, 2012 at 11 a.m. Burial will take place at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans Association. An online guestbook is available at www.johnmoakey.com. The family would like to express our thanks to the doctors and staff of the Veterans Medical Center including the palliative care unit there as well as the staff of the Salem Health and Rehabilitation Center for being so kind and caring.
