Gregory A. Wilcock Wil, 65, of Roanoke passed away Thursday, October 1, 2015. He was born to the late Clyde and Kathleen Wilcock on December 3, 1949 in Salt Lake City, UT.
Wil enlisted in the United States Army in 1970 and proudly served for over 27 years in units such as the 82nd Airborne and the Green Berets. He fought in two major wars and received awards and decorations too numerous to mention, retiring as a CW4. After leaving the Army, Wil joined the Disabled American Veterans, later becoming a veterans advocate, a member of the honor guard, and Commander of the DAVs H H Mackenzie Chapter # 3.
Wil was an accomplished horseman and hunter who also loved watching sports and spent many Sundays rooting for his San Diego Chargers and Tony Stewart. He was known as a prankster extraordinaire.
Wil is survived by his wife, Soyna Wilcock; daughters, Cindi (Andy) Pastor, Kristen Wilcock, and Marion Wilcock; brother, Marty Wilcock; sister, Terry (Edward) Weil; grandson, Magnus Wilcock; and many other friends, neighbors, and family members who love him.
A graveside service with full military honors will take place 2 pm Friday, November 13, 2015 at Southwest Veterans Cemetery in Dublin, VA. Following the ceremony there will be a reception honoring Wils life at the DAV Chapter #3 located at 2381 Roanoke Blvd, Salem, VA. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Good Samaritan Hospice for their compassion and a special thank you to Mike Alexander. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that all donations be made in Wils memory to the Trench Rats Dugout #542, 2381 Roanoke Blvd Salem, VA.
