Gordon Perry Moses

Gordon Perry Moses, age 82, of Salem, Va., died peacefully on Wednesday, June 24, 2015. Gordon was born on December 25, 1932 in Yuma, Arizona, the only child of the late Benjamin Franklin Moses and Ruth Mae Hume Moses. He grew up in Los Angeles, Calif. and earned a degree in Accounting from California State University - Los Angeles after serving in the U.S. Air Force. Gordon moved to his beloved Virginia in 1969. He was retired from the U.S. Department of Labor and enjoyed volunteering at the libraries in Salem City Schools. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan Davis Moses; and grandson, Matthew Thompson Gordon is lovingly remembered by his wife of 27 years, Erma "Snookie" Moses; his children, Michael Moses, Kathleen Moses Benson, Caroline Moses Poissonniez, and Courtney Moses; and step-children, Maynard Thompson, Wanda Bowen, and Russell Thompson. He is also survived by grandchildren, Laura Wright, Claire Poissonniez, Elisa Moses, Christopher Poissonniez, Rebecca Moses, Katelyn Thompson, Johnathan Thompson, Alan Ohmsen, and Holly Thompson; great-grandchildren, Trent and Piper Peters; beloved beagle, Yippy; and best friend, Becky Brown. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 26, 2015 at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A graveside service will then take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at Sherwood Memorial Park, also in Salem. Online condolences may be expressed at www.johnmoakey.com.
