Gloria Dawn Lackey Wade

Gloria Dawn Lackey Wade, 76, of Salem, left this world on Sunday, February 1, 2015 to be reunited with her Lord, family and friends whom have gone on before her. She was born on April 13, 1938 to the late Cain William and Rosie Ellen Lackey in Roanoke, VA. Prior to retirement, she was employed with Brendles Department Store in Roanoke. She was a faithful and dedicated member of Bethel Baptist Church in Salem. In her younger years, Gloria was very well known to be active in swimming and roller skating, as she thoroughly enjoyed them both. However, she will be remembered most as a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Molly Wade, and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ruth and Don Beheler. Family remaining to cherish her memory includes her husband of 60 years, Haden E. Wade; son, David Wade; daughter, Laurel Wade; grandson, Matt Thomas Wade and wife, April; great-grandchildren, Aiden and Noah Thomas, and special k-9 companions, Meiko and Snuggles. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February, 4, 2015 from 6 until 8 p.m. at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Ivy Adams Officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem.
