Glenna Rose Henson

Glenna Rose Poindexter Henson, 74, of Front Royal, Va. and formerly of Roanoke, passed away on Friday, April 17, 2015. She was born on October 23, 1940 in Roanoke, Va. to the late Ira Chapman and Mary Francis Hickman Poindexter. Mom enjoyed substitute teaching in her early years of employment. She later retired from BB&T and Hechts department store, after a number of years of faithful service. She particularly enjoyed holiday gift wrapping for customers during the holiday seasons. Mom had a big heart for her family and was always priority 1. She always made sure her children were provided for and always made time for fun and games! Board games and Jacks were just a couple of things she enjoyed with us during our adolescent years. She certainly loved spending every chance she had with her family! In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Robert C. Poindexter, Nancy C. Boone and Theodore G. Poindexter. Family remaining to cherish her memory includes her children, Ronald D. Henson, Rhonda D. Chalmers and husband, Robert, and Darryl T. Henson; grandchildren, Amanda, Michael, Steven, Dylan, Hali, Carter and Caelyn; great-grandchildren, Steven, Jr. and Logan; siblings, Ira Chapman Poindexter, Jr. and Thomas Fallon Poindexter and wife, Hannelore. Numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends also survive. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 from noon until 2 p.m. at John M. Oakey & Son funeral home, Salem. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem.
