She is survived by five daughters, Martha Ann Hoover Anderson (Charlie), Jean Hoover Robbins (Michael), Betty Hoover Tustin (John), Mary Hoover Roberts (Tim), and Kay Hoover Carlton (Brad); one daughter-in-law, Catherine Perry Hoover; and 21 grandchildren, Greg Anderson, Elisabeth Watts (Bryan), Laura Anderson-Knight (Tim), Stewart Robbins (Lindsey), Ken Tustin (Shannon), Stephen Anderson (Alicia), James Robbins, Ginny Tustin, Brian Tustin (Christine), Mark Roberts (Chrissy), Mary Frances Behrendt (Ben), Brad Roberts (Kim), Rebecca Hoover, Carol Ann Ferguson (Teron), Matthew Hoover, Robert Hoover, Palmer Roberts (Ashlyn), Virginia Kay Copeland (Morgan), Natasha Carlton, Jedidiah Carlton, and Sarah Hoover. Gladys also cherished her 25 great‑grandchildren; as well as her nieces, nephews, and their families.

Mrs. Hoover was born on September 25, 1923, in Moneta, Va. She attended National Business College in Roanoke before taking a job at Wright Motors. It was there that she met Kenneth Loving Hoover, a bookkeeper at the dealership. They married on November 15, 1947, and spent most of their married life in Roanoke with a brief period in Newport News, Va.

In 1974, they moved to Moneta when they purchased the Meador family home as well as the general store her father had built in the early 1900s. She spent many enjoyable hours in that store, working side by side with her husband and connecting with the community.

As a wife and mother, Gladys created a warm and welcoming home in both Roanoke and Moneta-one that opened its doors to countless relatives, friends, and neighbors over the years. Her hospitality and gracious spirit were well known to all who entered. Her life's passion was to share the good news of the abundant life and salvation that is found through faith in Jesus Christ. She taught Child Evangelism Fellowship Bible clubs for children through the years. She also hosted Bible studies for teenagers and, later, for women in the Moneta community who have remained lifelong friends.

Mrs. Hoover was active with the Southside Seniors and the Agape Center. She was a member of Covenant Fellowship Church of Moneta.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at EastLake Community Church in Moneta, Va. A private graveside service at Evergreen Burial Park in Roanoke will take place prior to the funeral.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to Covenant Fellowship of Moneta (www.covfellowship.org) and to the Agape Center (www.agapecentersml.org). Online condolences may be expressed at www.johnmoakey.com.
