Gilbert Lee Spangler, 79, of Salem, passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2015. During his retirement, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Aus Spangler and Edith Spangler Blankenship; and siblings, Ernest Spangler, Eugene Spangler, and Mildred Deaton. His surviving family includes his wife of 52 years, Phyllis Spangler; siblings, Donald Spangler, Glen Spangler and wife, Donnie, Richard Spangler and wife, Cheryl, and Joyce Jenkins; many cousins, nieces, and nephews; and very special neighbor friend, Tim Farmer, who was like a son. The family will receive friends on Monday, February 2, 2015 beginning at 1 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem. A funeral service will then begin at 2 p.m. and will be officiated by the Rev. Derek Gordon. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park, also in Salem.
