George Lee (Swifty) Gillock, of Salem, went home on Wednesday, April 22, 2015. He was born on July 17, 1941 in Waynesboro, VA to the late Woodson Burris and Anna Dierolf Gillock. Professionally, he was a radio announcer and music programmer for WSLC 610 and 94.9 Star Country for 50 years. He enjoyed gardening, baseball, watching the Redskins, visiting Myrtle Beach, and animals in his spare time. His surviving family includes his wife of 35 years, Kittie Pingle Gillock; son, Doug Gillock; sister, Patricia Grant; numerous nieces and nephews; and beloved dog, Laci. The family wishes to thank the nurses and doctors at Lewis-Gale Medical Center for their wonderful care. A period of visitation will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2015 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem. A memorial service will then take place on Sunday, April 26, 2015 at 2 p.m., also in the chapel. Inurnment will be private. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made to either the American Cancer Society or to the Roanoke Valley SPCA. Online condolences may be expressed at www.johnmoakey.com.
