Gary Wayne Dowdy Sr.

Gary Wayne Dowdy, Sr., 52, of Salem, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 9, 2012. He was a proud veteran having served in the United States Army, and loved to hunt and fish. He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Jean Dowdy. His surviving family includes his parents, St. Marcus and Ruby Dowdy; wife of 24 years, Sue Dowdy; son, Gary Dowdy, Jr.; nephew who was like a son, Donald Dowdy; brothers, Robert Dowdy and wife, Kelly, Victor Dowdy and wife, Connie, and Randy Dowdy; nieces and nephews, Mark, Nicki, Steve, Krystle, and Laura; very special friends, the Beckners; and a host of other family members and friends. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem. A funeral service will then be held that evening at 6 p.m. with an additional period of visitation continuing until 8 p.m. Minister Pamela Roye-Mitchell will officiate.
