Garnett Wayne Markham Garnett Wayne Markham, 69, of Salem, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 28, 2014. He was born in Roanoke, a son of the late Charles and Lillie Markham and had been an area resident all of his life. He retired as a stockroom manager with Double Envelope after 42 years of service. He was a lifelong member of Lakeside Baptist, where he served as night watchman for over 25 years and was active in the AWANA Clubs. Wayne was a staunch supporter of the ASPCA, and was a huge Virginia Tech and New York Yankees fan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Arthur Markham, who died in 2011, nine brothers and two sisters. He is survived by three sons, Joel Markham and his wife Mary, Seth Markham and his wife Holly and Jeremy Markham and his wife Amanda; two brothers, Glenn Markham and his wife Susan, and Calvin Markham and his wife Kathy. Also surviving are ten grandchildren and many extended family members. Funeral services will be held at 11AM, Monday, June 2, 2014 at Lakeside Baptist Church, Salem. The Rev. Art Hearne will officiate. Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 PM, Sunday at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem.
