Freddie Lee Crockett, age 67, of Salem, VA passed away suddenly on August 31, 2010, at his home in Bedford, VA with his wife, Gwen, by his side. Freddie was born May 29, 1943, to Edgar Lee Crockett and Emaline Grubb Crockett Cawley. His career consisted of working for the Salem Fire department, Salem Police Department as an officer and detective, Roanoke County Sheriffs office as a detective, and Veterans Administration in security. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corp. In his retirement, he loved the game of golf, especially the day he made 2 holes in one! Freddie became a cowboy, put on boots and a hat, and shared the love of horses with his wife. He had a way with animals and will be missed by Ellie and Ebony their horses. His sense of humor, wit, and laughter will be missed by everyone who knew him. Our world became a little sadder today. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Gwen Crockett. Sisters: Judith Sanborn and husband Roger, Jeanie Minton and husband Ron. Sisters-in-law: Beth Bell and husband Calvin; Vicki Lee and husband Gene; Brother-in-law: Ethan Dogan. Children: Brian Crockett and wife Lisa; Lee Crockett; Kelly Rowe. Step-children: Kevin Huffman; Kristen Reimer and husband Troy; Grandchildren: Tyler Crockett; Alaina Crockett; Trinity Rowe, Amanda Crockett; Morgan Steen. Step-grandchildren: Bryson Reimer;Bailey Reimer; Megan White and husband Carl. Step-great-grandchildren: Emory and Tyson White. He leaves behind other very special family members and friends. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 2, 2010 and Friday, September 3 2010 from 6 to 8 pm at John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home in Salem to celebrate his life.
