Frank L. Pendleton, 89 of Salem, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at his home, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on February 4, 1931, in Roanoke County, to the late Charles and Della Pendleton. Frank grew up in in Roanoke County, where he attended and graduated from Andrew Lewis High. Following High school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving faithfully for 4 years. Upon his honorable discharge, Frank came home to Salem, where he would begin his career in law enforcement. His career started on June 25, 1955, as an officer of the Salem Police Department. He was soon promoted to Sergeant and decided to attend the FBI Academy, located in Quantico, Va. He retired with the rank of Lieutenant, serving his fellow citizens of Salem, for 39 plus years before retiring on December 1, 1994. Frank enjoyed carpentry, gardening, and watching sports, with his family and friends by his side. In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his beautiful wife of 60 years, Evelyn Pendleton; daughter, Deborah P. Kanode; sisters, Elizabeth and Myra Belle Pendleton, and Jane Czarnecki; and his brothers, Lewis, Jim, and Harold Pendleton. Frank leaves behind his daughter, Valerie P. Parries (Frank); son, Michael Pendleton, and daughter, Pamela P. Christianson, all of Salem.; granddaughter, Summer Tetterton (John); grandsons, Scott Kanode (Krista), Russ Parries (Leslie), Chad Parries, David Christianson (Kristen), Jared Christianson, Danny Gammons (Danielle), Grant Gammons (Jenifer); great-grandchildren, Grace, DJ, Finley, Kier, Madison, Brady, Wyatt, Virginia, and Lorelei; brother, Bernard Pendleton; and many special nieces, nephews, other family, and friends. Frank was respected and loved by so many in the community and he loved serving the City. We will miss that kind giving heart! Funeral services to honor Franks life will be conducted on Monday, December 28, 2020, at 2 pm, in the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son funeral home, in Salem, with Pastor Everett Kier officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park, in Salem, where military rights will also be rendered. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to the Fort Lewis Fire and Rescue.
