Frank David “Dave” Nofsinger of Salem, Virginia, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2026, at the age of 81. He was born on Friday, October 13, 1944, in Fincastle, Virginia, to the late Frank Montague Nofsinger and Edna Margaret Haymaker Nofsinger.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Kent Montague Nofsinger, Sr.; his sister, Martha Fern “Marti” Nofsinger Barnett and her husband, Jerry; and his granddaughter, Chelsea Dove.

Dave is survived by his wife, Kinuko Nofsinger; his stepson, Timothy (Crystal) Tomlin; and his daughters, Vonda (Jennifer) Nofsinger and Ronda (Gehrig) Dove. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lori, Justin, Brittany (Mickenzy), and Lorraine; and his great-grandchildren, Gavyn, Katie, Houston, and Madison. He is also survived by his sister, Margaret Garrison, and her late husband, Michael.

He leaves behind many nieces and nephews, including Amy and her children, Hunter and Holden; Karen (Kevin) and their children, Meghan and Ben; Michelle (Matthew) and their children, Markham, Macie, and Mahlen; and Jenny (Thomas) and her children, Collin, Blaine, and Corra.

Also mourning his passing is his beloved dog, Ozzy.

Dave spent most of his life in Virginia. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he served as a drill sergeant. Over the years, he worked in several fields, including engineering, and at one time owned and operated Nofsinger Trucking Company, a venture he was especially proud of.

A simple man by nature, Dave never cared for attention or recognition. Though he kept mostly to himself, those who knew him would describe him as a gentleman. Neighbors recall the quiet ways he helped others—from clearing snow from a driveway to lending a hand when someone needed it most.

Dave had a deep appreciation for working with his hands. He loved tending his garden and took great pride in canning the fruits of his labor. He also enjoyed rebuilding classic cars and had a keen eye for spotting a diamond in the rough.

One of his greatest passions was woodworking. Dave was a master craftsman who especially enjoyed the challenge of designing and building pieces where every part was made of wood. He loved the puzzle of fitting unusual or difficult pieces together until everything fit just right. The pieces he created were among the things he was most proud of.

Dave was also a true outdoorsman. If he had the opportunity to hunt or fish, he would take it in an instant. He especially enjoyed deer and turkey hunting and loved being in the woods, no matter the season. Fishing was another great passion of his. Whether at a lake, stream, pond, or the sea, he was happiest casting a line. Most often, he practiced catch and release, always hoping to land a trout.

Per his wishes, no services are scheduled at this time.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
