Frances Allen Musser, 90, of Salem, Virginia, died November 28, 2013. She was predeceased by her parents, Lawrence F. and Mary Jones Allen; her brother, Jack Allen; her sister, Blanche Hicks; her niece, Jane Eggleston; and her beloved husband, Alph Musser.
Frances was born in Abingdon, Virginia, on January 26, 1923. After graduating from high school, she received her RN and joined the Army Nurse Corps during WWII, where she rose to the rank of First Lieutenant. On her return from active duty, she worked at the Salem Veterans Hospital, where she retired as a night supervisor.
She and her husband loved to travel and spent many happy winters in Puerto Rico after their retirement. She was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church in Salem, and volunteered for the Salem Clothes Closet, the Red Cross and Meals on Wheels.
Frances is survived by nephews, James Hicks of Kentucky and W.J. Thomas of Moneta; nieces, Duffy Stout of South Carolina, Venona Thompson of California, and Julie Chapman of Salem; sister-in-law, Sue Allen; brother-in-law, Bill Hall; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
The family is grateful to the staff of Snyders Nursing Home for their compassionate care and special caregiver Nadia King.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 1, 2013 from 3 until 5 p.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son funeral home in Salem.
