Floyd Yancey (Pat) Knight, Jr., 94, of Salem, Virginia, died peacefully on May 22, 2015 in Salem. He was born in Boyce, Virginia on August 18, 1920 to Floyd Y. Knight, Sr. and Ethel Florine Rodgers.
Pat graduated Elkton High School in Elkton, VA, and began his career of over 50 years as a conductor on the Norfolk & Western Railroad. During World War II, he was an Infantryman with the US Armys 26th (Yankee) Infantry Division. Pat was an avid hunter and fisherman, and was a founding member of the Old Stag Hunt Club in Millsboro Springs, VA. He was also a member of the Central United Methodist Church in Salem for over 60 years. Pat was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Carl and Walter, and his son, Robert E. Knight.
Pat is survived by his wife of 71 years, Dorothy Elizabeth Collins Knight of Salem, Virginia; his daughter Linda Knight Wilson, Ph.D. and son-in-law, Stephen, of Mathews, Virginia; his daughter Doris Knight Jusay of Roanoke, Virginia; his daughter Deborah Knight Kirby and son-in-law, Jerry, of Blue Ridge, Virginia; five grandchildren, Paul, Phillip and wife Kimberly, Kenneth and wife Carolina, Kristal, and Joshua; and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2PM, Tuesday, May 26, 2015 in the Chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. The Rev. Kristin Holbrook will officiate. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service beginning at 1 PM at the funeral home. Following the service, Pat will be interned alongside his son, Robert, in Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem, where graveside Military Honors will be afforded by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Funeral Honors Team. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Builders Sunday School Class, Central United Methodist Church, 428 S. College Avenue, Salem, Virginia 24153.
