Fern Elizabeth Terry

Fern Elizabeth Terry, 93, of Salem, passed on April 27, 2014, preceded in death by Henry her husband of 55 years, parents Luther and Octavia Garst Wertz, brothers Earl and Fred Wertz, sister Dorothy Wertz Smith and son-in-law Marshall D. Dowdy. She is survived by her sister Maybelle Wertz Walker, daughters Janet Terry Dowdy, Pat Terry Reed and husband Tim, grandchildren Marty Dowdy, Ty Dowdy, Terry Dowdy, Hope Reed Smith, Kelly Reed and spouses, 5 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Elizabeth was a graduate of Andrew Lewis HS, a member of Tabernacle and Ft. Lewis Baptist Churches, Eastern Star Williamson Rd. Chapter, Wolverine Camper Club, and Conehurst Home Demonstration Club. She worked at Fink's Jewelers in Salem, Associated Grocers, and Hop In Food Store Offices. Elizabeth was a great cook (especially cornbread, beef roast, and peach cobbler) and enjoyed gardening and camping. Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Tuesday, April 29 and funeral service at 2 PM on Wednesday April 30 at John M. Oakey & Son in Salem. Interment will follow at Sherwood. The family thanks Snyder Nursing Home for the wonderful care Elizabeth received.
