Everlyn B. White, 88, of Salem, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 4, 2013. He was born on August 14, 1924 in Delaware County, OH to the late James and Carrie White. As a Rinky-Dink, he enjoyed working at Lakeside Amusement Park during his days at Andrew Lewis High School. He was a proud veteran having served in the Army as a 238th Combat Engineer during WWII, and later worked for various construction companies until retiring from Roanoke Iron Bridge Works. His church membership was held at Tabernacle Baptist Church, and he enjoyed fishing and watching football in his spare time. Everlyn was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be lovingly missed. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Lynn White, Sr. and Robert (Shorty) E. White; and a sister, Juanita (Sis) Dennis. His surviving family includes his loving wife of 67 years, Hilda Cecil White; children, Edwin White, Linda White Bruce and husband, Richard, and Fred White and wife, Charlotte; grandchildren, Michele Sparks and husband, Paul, Bradley D. Hurley, Will White and Donna, Patty McDonnell and husband, Ryan, and Misty Kassebaum and husband, Brendan; 9 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Billye White and Nancy Cecil; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the wonderful medical personnel at Salem Health and Rehabilitation for taking such great care of Everlyn. A graveside service with military funeral honors will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem with Chaplain Dave Vanderpool officiating. There will be no period of visitation. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Everlyns name to Tabernacle Baptist Church at 1923 East Main Street in Salem, VA 24153.
