Evelyn Louise (McCray) White, 77, a lifetime resident of Salem, was ushered into paradise on Tuesday, July 17, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow White; father, Nathan McCray; mother, Virgie (Glass) McCray; sister, Margaret Dudding; and brother, James McCray. She is survived by her four children: daughters, Shelley Cranford of Catawba and Sandy Wood of Fincastle; sons, Barry White and wife, Gloria, of Roanoke, and Danny Petie White of Salem; brothers, Tommy McCray and Bobby McCray and wife, Donna, all of Salem; sister, Becky Brown and husband, Boots, of Salem; sister-in-law, Margaret McCray of Richmond; 7 grandchildren, Lori Law and husband, Billy, Sammy StClair, Troy Arthur, Corey White and wife, Jenny, Jeremy White and wife, Jessica, Ashley Jones and husband, Brett, and Travis White; 15 great-grandchildren; her best friend, Doreen Hartman of Salem; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was a faithful member of the West Side Church of Christ in Salem. A special thank you to Cheryl Williams (Local Office on Aging), Theresa Washington (American Red Cross), Good Samaritan Hospice, all of the staff at Richfield Retirement second floor rehab, and her friends at TOPS. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 20, 2012 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the funeral homes chapel. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. Minister Don Pettit will officiate.
