Evelyn Koegel Minnix

Evelyn Koegel Minnix, 95, lifetime resident of Salem and Roanoke, Va., passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2019, at Park Oak Grove Assisted Living. Evelyn was born on July 20, 1924, in Roanoke, Va., the daughter of the late Blanche Simms and Walter F. Koegel. Evelyn was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Roanoke, Va. She was a homemaker, and retired after 33 years of service with the Department of Veterans Affairs Regional Office in Roanoke, Va. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Roy W. Minnix, Sr.; sister, Virginia Leighton; and her son, Phillip Alfred Minnix. Evelyn is survived by sons, Roy W. (Anita) Minnix, Jr. and Stephen A. (Carol) Minnix; grandchildren, Elizabeth Marie (Ira) Citron, Teresa Michelle Minnix, and Roy W. (Jennifer) Minnix III; and great-grandchildren, Joshua Seth Pistone, Emily Renee Minnix, Rachel Marie Minnix, Roy W. Minnix IV, Michael Ayo Minnix, and Sierra Michelle Citron. The family would like to thank The Park - Oak Grove, Heartland Hospice and Home Instead Senior Care for their care and compassion. Following a private interment, a memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2019, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church located at 1887 Electric Road in Roanoke, Va. 24018 with Rev. D. Keith Beasley officiating. A repast will be offered in the fellowship hall of the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church (Lutheran Women's Missionary League).
