Eva Virginia Lewis, 86, of Salem, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, January 14, 2015. She was born in Sinks Grove, WVA, a daughter of the late Dewey and Elizabeth Brown and had been a Salem resident for over 50 years. Eva graduated from Union High Scholl in 1946 and was a devoted employee of C&P Telephone Company for over 40 years. She was an active member of the Pioneers of America, the American Business Womens Association, Hollins Chapter, and Covenant Community Church. Following her retirement, she enjoyed volunteering her time in the community. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Frank Herbert Lewis, and by a brother, Charles Brown. She was a devoted wife, incredible mother, and the best grandmother! Eva is survived by her children, Steve (Cindy) Lewis, Beth (Lynn) Goad and Julia (Glenn) Fitch; granddaughters, Amber (Ward) Parker, Stephanie Swiney and Lauren Minter; great-grandchildren, Taylor Parker, Blake Parker, Campbell Dooley and Jaren Roberts. The family would like to take this opportunity to express a sincere thank you to the Carilion Clinic Hospice staff for all their care, and to Betty Parrish, her long time friend and caregiver. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 PM, Friday (Today), January 16, 2015 at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. Interment at Cedar Lawn Burial Park will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her honor may be made to Covenant Community Church 955 Bird Lane, Salem, VA 24153.
