Ernest Eugene Barnett

Ernest Eugene Gene Barnett, 84, of Salem, passed away at Roanoke Memorial Hospital on Sunday, March 6, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Sydnor and Kellie May Doyle Barnett; brothers, William Bill Barnett, Lucian Lee Barnett, Samuel Wallace Barnett, and Lynwood Warrnier Barnett; and sister, Juanita Rosa Chappell. Gene was a Master Mason, holding lifetime membership with Taylor Lodge #23, Shriners, and Scottish Rite. He was also a member of Central United Methodist Church in Salem. He was a successful engineer in the heavy equipment tire industry, and he spoke fondly of his many years with Brad Regan. Gene was a devoted and loving husband. Family left to cherish his memory include his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth Betty Barnett; sister, Joyce Frances Randell; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 9, 2016 from 12 until 1 p.m., with a graveside service following at 2 p.m. at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem. Pastor Bryan Buckles will officiate.
