Eric Daniel Austin

Eric Daniel Austin, 22, of Salem, passed away Friday, July 18, 2014. Eric was born April 12, 1992, in Salem to his loving parents, Lewis Austin and Terri Austin, both of Salem. Eric graduated from Glenvar High School in 2010. He was an avid lover of sports and was a huge fan of the Virginia Tech Hokies. He had a passion for baseball and played on teams for his school, the AAU, the American Legion, and Rip City. One his proudest accomplishments was being named first team All-State on the Glenvar baseball team. He also loved to be outdoors camping, hunting, and fishing. Eric always looked forward to trips and enjoyed family vacations to Myrtle Beach, road trips to Charlotte and DC, visits to New York City, and a cruise to the Caribbean. He loved thrill rides including all types of roller coasters at amusement parks, zip-lining, snowboarding, 4-wheeling, and even skydiving. Throughout his life, Eric had two cherished pets- dogs Bear and Tyson. Those left to cherish Eric's memory are his older sister, who was also his best friend, Ashley Austin (Matt); paternal grandfather, Harry Austin of Floyd; maternal grandparents, Bobby and Jeanne Martin of Salem; aunts and uncles, Connie White, Larry Austin (Lorraine), Cathy Noell (Keith), Nelthia Austin, Vicky Thomas (David), Chad Martin; and special Aunt Becky. Eric also leaves cousins Travis, Josh, Michelle, Crystal, Evan, Cassie, Brandon, AnnMarie, David, Jane, Josh, and Amanda. Paternal grandmother, JoAnn Austin; and two very special uncles, Uncle Kenny and Uncle Charlie, preceded Eric in death. The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at Fellowship Community Church, 1226 Red Lane Ext, Salem with Pastor Ken Nienke officiating. A graveside service will follow at Vest Cemetery in Floyd. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home.
