Eloise Hall Paxton, 98, of Salem, entered into eternal rest and joy on Saturday, December 10, 2011. She was born in Franklin County, a daughter of the late Henry L. Hall and Virgie Brooks Hall and had been an area resident all of her life. She was a 75 year member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and served as the choir director both at Tabernacle and Riverland Road Baptist Church. She played the piano, entertaining our veterans at the VA Medical Center for over 37 years, and enjoyed working with flowers in her yard and taking walks. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell L. Paxton, Sr., an infant daughter, Dorothy Louise Paxton, grandson David A. Harris, a granddaughter, Elizabeth Swain and five brothers.. She is survived by three daughters, Norma P. Harris, Barbara P. Swain and Shirley M. Paxton; a son, Russell L. Paxton, Jr., three grandsons, ten great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Gentle Shepherd Hospice for the care, concern and love given to Eloise during her last illness. Funeral services will be held at 2PM, Tuesday, December 13, 2011 in the Abbey of Sherwood Memorial Park. Chaplains Quentin White and Harold Bryant will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8PM, Monday, December 12th at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Gentle Shepherd Hospice, 6045 Peters Creek Rd. Roanoke, VA 24019.
