Elizabeth Jane Betty Turner, of Roanoke, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, May 15, 2012.
She was born in Richmond, a daughter of the late William L. Turner and Myrtle Martin Turner and had resided in Daytona Beach, FL for over twenty years before settling in the Roanoke area. She was a long time member of Unity of Roanoke Valley, was employed in the family business, Red Ball Lumber and Cash Building Supplies for many years and enjoyed painting and Bible study. Bettys greatest joy however, was spending time with her children and grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Eleanor Turner and Sonja Jay Turner.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Debbie Simms and her husband Troy, Donna Simko and her husband John, and Lynne Adams; six grandchildren, Greer, Lee, Kris and his wife Nikki, Brandon and his wife Victoria, John, Nicholas and Erin; two great-grandchildren, Jack and Zack; a brother Bill Turner; two sisters, Joy Corkery and Anna Teshoian, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8PM, Thursday, May 17, 2012 at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. A private graveside service for family will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 2840 Electric Rd. # 106 Roanoke, VA.
