Elizabeth (Betty) Hayes Doyle, of Elliston, passed away on Monday, September 1, 2014. She led a life of service to her family and her community. She was a longtime member of the Montgomery County Friends of the Library in Shawsville and thoroughly enjoyed participating in the Reading Rangers program. She was also a member of The Retired Senior Volunteer Program for many years. Preceding her in death were her parents, E. Paul and Elizabeth S. Hayes; and husband, Frank S. Doyle. Her surviving family includes her children, Frank P. Doyle and wife, Nancy, and Elizabeth Teare and husband, Nick; grandchildren, Nicole, Carter, Stephen, and Megan Doyle and Margaret and Katie Teare; great-grandchildren, Cameron Shepard and Adyson Vandevander; and brother, Edgar Paul Hayes. The family will welcome friends on Friday, September 5, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A funeral service will then be held on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the funeral homes chapel. Interment will immediately follow at Sherwood Memorial Park, also in Salem. Chaplain Dave Vanderpool will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bettys name to either the Montgomery County Friends of the Library at PO Box 497 in Shawsville, VA 24162 or to the Retired Senior Volunteer Program at 210 South Pepper Street Suite D in Christiansburg, VA 24073.
