Edward E. Burford

Edward Eugene Burford, 84, of Salem, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2011. He was born in Roanoke, a son of the late Eddie Nelson Burford and Sylvia Wilt Burford and had been an area resident all of his life. He was employed with Roanoke County for over 25 years prior to retiring. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church, where he served as church treasurer for many years, was a member of the REACT Amateur Radio Club and enjoyed working on television sets. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his spouses, Edna Mae Campbell Burford who died May 28, 1981 and Sarah Louise Saunders Burford who died January 4, 2011. He is survived by a son, Timothy E. Burford and his wife Cynthia of Salem; a daughter, Sharon M. Mahala and her husband James of Vinton; three grandchildren, Kimberly Burford and her fiance Charles McCombs of Wilmington, NC; Christopher Mahala and his fiance Katrina Baldwin of Vinton; Benjamin Mahala and his friend Darnyl Katsinger of Atlanta, GA; two sisters, Janice Draper and her husband Richard of Novato, CA; Charlotte Johnson of Charlottesville as well as two nieces. Funeral services will be held at 11AM, Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at the Chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. Pastor Tommy Hurt will officiate. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Vinton. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
