Edna L. Bushnell, 94, of Salem, passed away Friday, October 7, 2011. A native and lifelong resident of Salem, She was the oldest child of the late Chester and Lilly Bradley Mills. She was a life member of the First Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School and was active in the Choir. She was a Girl Scout leader for many years and volunteered at the Salem Food Pantry. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William T. Bushnell, who died in 1972 and by three brothers, Paul Ray and Howard Mills, and two sisters, Juanita Guthrie and Grace Counts. She is survived by her son Daniel Bushnell and his wife Norma; two granddaughters, Dr. Angela B. Perry and her husband Tim, and Robin Frazier; a sister Louise Crotts; brother-in-law A.J. Coony Counts; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Mills and Dilys St. Clair, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to take this opportunity to express their sincere appreciation to Visiting Angels especially Linda Day, her former daughter-in-law, friend and caregiver Gail Bushnell, good friend and caregiver, Peggy Thompson, and good neighbors and friends Margaret and Sharon Key. Funeral services will be held at 11AM, Tuesday, October 11, 2011 in the Chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home. The Rev. Dan Netting will officiate. Internment will be private. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8PM, Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church, 712 Front Ave. Salem, VA 24153 or to the Salem Food Pantry, 620 Chapman St. Salem, VA 24153.
