Eddy A. Newman, 73, of Roanoke, passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2021, at Lewis Gale Medical Center. He was born on March 6, 1947, in Roanoke, to the late Gilbert Eugene and Hazel Frances King Newman. Eddy proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. His duties as a medic certainly took their toll on him, but he, alongside his brothers in arms, was committed and faithful to finish the job. He was no stranger to work and was certainly known for his strong work ethic. He enjoyed reading and writing poetry and was fortunate to have one published. You could always count on him to have a joke if you needed a good laugh, but above it all, Eddy will be remembered as a true friend and good person. In addition to his parents, Eddy was preceded in death by his late wife, Barbara Jean Newman; and two sisters, Frances and Jenne Newman. He is survived by his dearest and best friend, Deborah M. Castillo; and his son, Charles (Jack) Newman. In keeping of Eddys wishes, all services at Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery will be private. Special thanks to Robert Bardwell and staff at Intrepid Hospice, as well as the caring staff at the Virginia Veterans Care Center. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to your local Lions Club in Eddys memory. Service Details. Interment Location Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery Address 5550 Bagging Plant Road Dublin, VA 24084
