He was preceded home by a granddaughter, Alisha D. Humphreys. He served proudly in the 94th Signal Battalion in World War II and returned to West Virginia. He was retired from General Electric in Salem. He enjoyed gardening, walking, fishing, his family and his church. Surviving him are, Kathy and Duane (Bubba) Smith, Robby Young, Pam Gobble, Harold (Wormy) Keene and special daughter Gladys Mitchell. His surviving Grandchildren are April and Chris Preston, Kyle Bush, Amanda Underwood and Ashley and Matt Manning. He had five great grandchildren, Lauren Preston, Robert Underwood, Mercedeze Matheny, Aidan Hash and Scarlett Manning who affectionately called him Paws or Paw. He is also survived by his brothers and sister in law, Bill Humphreys and Jerry and Rosalyn Humphreys. Daddy had a way of making special neighbors and friends-we would like to thank Joe and Edna Swink for a lifetime of being great neighbors and Sue and Mark Mutterspaugh for all of their help, love and support. He was a great prankster and gave us a love for fun, nature and being outdoors. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son, Salem with Pastor Sonny Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Gap Mills, WV. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at John M. Oakey and Son, Salem. The family request that in lieu of flowers donations may be made in Earnies name to Good Samaritan Hospice.
