Earle Wilder Brodie Jr.

Earle Wilder Brodie, Jr. Earle Wilder Brodie, Jr. 93, recently a resident of the Virginia Veterans Care Center in Roanoke, VA died on November 17, 2016. He was born in Woburn, MA on August 27, 1923, son of Earle W. Brodie, Sr. and Sarah Graham Brodie. He lived most of his life in Miami, FL. For seventeen years, he lived in Waynesboro VA before moving to the VVCC. He retired after 49 years of service from the Dade County Tax Collectors office. He was a combat veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Coast Guard on the U.S.S. Charlottesville from 1942-1946. He was president of the Miami Exchange Club, a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion and the Moose Club. His advocation was music and he had been a student of Professor Vincent Mott from the University of Miami where he studied drums and vibraphone. He was the founder of the Swingables, a dance band that performed for many years in Miami. He was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church who began singing in the childrens choir at the age of three. He was a member of St. Johns Episcopal, Waynesboro, VA. He also attended and sang in the choir at Zion Lutheran Church in Waynesboro. Survivors include his son, The Very Rev. Robert E. Brodie (Linda), Salem, VA and his brother, David Barton Brodie of Miami and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by June Virginia Brodie and Linda Hall Brodie and his brothers, Thomas and William Brodie, of Miami. Funeral services will be held at St. Pauls Episcopal Church, Salem at 2:00 pm Monday, November 21, 2016 with The Very Rev. James Lively officiating. The family will receive friends at 1:00 until the time of the service and following the service in the Parish Hall of St. Pauls. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to St. Pauls Episcopal Church, Salem VA.First Visitation
