Dwaine Henry Russell

Dwaine Henry Russell, 84, of Salem, VA a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away Monday, December 13, 2010. He was born September 6, 1926 in Munday, TX to the late John Henry and Dovie Rutherford Russell. He was also preceded in death by his son, John Charles Russell. Mr. Russell was a US Navy World War II Veteran, and a member of Rosalind Hills Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, sang in the choir, was a Sunday School Teacher and was involved with hospitality at the church. He was retired from the US Dept. of Agriculture where he was the District Supervisor of the Plant Pest Control Division. He was a Mason and served on the Lay Renewal Revivals through the Missions Board. His greatest desire in life was to be an example of Jesus Christ and try to live as the Lord would want him to. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Dora Leigh Sturgill Russell; daughter Nena Russell Akers and husband, Rick of Salem; grandchildren, Christopher Dwaine Russell of Dallas, TX, Kevan Kyle Russell of Lubbock, TX, Travis Justin Akers serving with the US Navy and Dustin Russell Akers of Blacksburg; great-grandson, Tallan Dwaine Russell; brother, Eugene Russell and wife, Betty of Graham, TX; and two nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am Friday, December 17, 2010 at the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son, Salem with Rev. Rick Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at John M. Oakey and Son, Salem. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Mr. Russells name to Good Samaritan Hospice.
