Dorothy Slaydon "Dottie" Wells

Dorothy Slaydon Wells, 80, of Salem, VA, passed away suddenly while caring for loved ones, on Monday, September 11, 2023, in Roanoke, VA. She was born on February 24, 1943, to Irene Flowers and the late Walter Flowers. Dorothy was a strong-willed independent lady, she never gave up or quit on any task she faced in her life. She was devoted to caring for her family in any capacity that was needed. Left to cherish her memory include her sons, Tony Slaydon and partner, Donna Bo West, Michael Slaydon and wife, Lynda; grandchildren, Nicole, Cory, Stephanie, Shayne, Allen, and Katie; seven great-grandchildren with two on the way; sisters, Barbara Blackford and Sandra Clark; and a host of extended family. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 15, 2023, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, with Pastor Ken Nieke officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke, VA. Friends may visit with the family from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at the funeral home.
