Dorothy Louise Phoenix Pruett Cooper Weeks, 93, of Salem, VA, went to be with the Lord on April 11, 2026. Born on July 7, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Lillie Phoenix.
Dorothy was a devoted member of Riverside Evangelical Methodist Church and a beloved figure in her community. Known affectionately as "Granny," she opened her "Christmas House" for many years, sharing her festive decorations and signature fudge with all who visited. A talented southern cook with a gift for hospitality, Dorothy brought warmth and joy to everyone, whether she welcomed them into her home or McDonald's.
She is survived by her daughters Charlotte Bivens, Renee Harrison, Judy Pruett, and Velda LaPrade (Curtis); grandchildren Randy Bivens, Julie Davis (Jason), Michael Pruett, Alesha LaPrade, Tiffany Pettus (Robert), Ashley LaPrade, Brooke LaPrade, and Cody Cooper; as well as 17 great-grandchildren. Dorothy also leaves behind special nieces Patti Pilling, Cindy Phoenix, and Mindy Fiedler; former husband Lewie Cooper; and her best friends Velda Marie Jones and Linda Taylor.
She was predeceased by her parents; brothers Raymond and Ray Phoenix; sister Deane Pilling; husbands, Wilbert Pruett and Vernon Weeks; sons Wayne Pruett and Steve Cooper; and grandson Chris Harrison.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and again on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at 1 p.m., with a service following in the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home. Pastor Brian Gordon will officiate the service. Interment will take place immediately afterward at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Roanoke, VA.
Dorothy’s legacy of love, generosity, and community spirit will be cherished by all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those she touched.
