Dorothy Lee Leftwich, 89, of Salem and formerly of High Point, N.C., passed away on Monday, February 29, 2016. She spent many years working first for Appalachian Power Company and then later for Norfolk Southern Railroad. Her church membership was held at Salem Baptist Church. She loved her family and enjoyed being Nannie to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death was her loving husband of 61 years, Rudolph (Rudy) Edward Leftwich. Her surviving family includes her children, Steven Edward Leftwich and wife, Connie, and Susan Leftwich Sale; grandchildren, Matt Sale and wife, Helen, Ian Sale and wife, Kristen, Leslie Sale Magner and husband, Jeff, Stephen Leftwich and wife, Hunter, Charlotte Leftwich, and Christian Leftwich; great-grandchildren, Brynleigh Sale, and Maggie and Henry Leftwich; and members of the L.C. and Thelma Miller family. The family extends a special thanks to all the wonderful friends that have cared for and encouraged them. A period of visitation will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 4, 2016, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2016, in the funeral homes chapel. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made in Dorothys name to the Salem Rescue Squad at 201 South Broad Street in Salem, Va. 24153.
