Dorothy Boothe 'Dottie' Atkinson

Dorothy (Dottie) Boothe Atkinson, 88, of Salem and formerly of Pulaski County, passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2015. She was preceded in death by her parents, Shelley W. and Stella Moore Boothe; husband, Alvin Rucker Atkinson, Sr.; 6 brothers; and 3 sisters. Her surviving family includes her children, Barbara Austin and Buddy Atkinson, Jr. and wife, Bonnie; siblings, Clara Varno and Kathleen Reid; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family members. The family extends a special thanks to the CCU nurses at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for their loving care. A period of visitation will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2015 in the funeral homes chapel with Pastor Dale Long officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.
