Doris Moran Sawyer

Doris Moran Sawyer, 90, of Salem peacefully passed away at home on December, 22, 2012, with family by her side. She was born in Salem on September 2, 1922 to Rabie & Clyde Moran. Doris was predeceased by Lonnie H. Sawyer, her husband of sixty years. She was a lifetime member of First Christian Church of Salem, and the Loyal Daughters Sunday School Class. She is survived by her daughter Lonna and son-in-law Samuel R. Carter, III; grandchildren Reed & Susan Carter, Emily Carter, and Kelly & Adam College; great-granddaughter Emma Carter; brother R.L & Martha Moran, and nieces and nephews Ronnie, Trina, & Jill Moran, and Walt, Malinda, Travis, Cheryl, Devin, & Preston Rivers. The family extends its deepest gratitude to the nursing staff of Six West at Lewis Gale Hospital; her oncologist Dr. William Fintel; the wonderful caregivers of Friendship Home Care, and the Good Samaritan Hospice. Memorial gifts may be made to First Christian Church of Salem, 712 Front Street. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 26th from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at John M. Oakey & Son funeral home in Salem. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 27th at 11 a.m. in the funeral home Chapel, with Dan Netting officiating.
