Doris Murray Jacobs, of Salem, passed away on Monday, February 4, 2013 at Pheasant Ridge Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by her parents, Abner and Sadie Murray; beloved son, Stephen Jacobs; brother, Joseph (Buzzoo) Murray; and daughter-in-law, Connie Sue (Mimi) Jacobs.
Doris attended Hollins College and graduated from the Julliard School of Music in New York. She loved opera, had a beautiful voice, and owned and operated Main Street Antiques in Salem. Doris was an active member of Our Lady Of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Salem and loved attending Mass and services there.
Her surviving family includes her daughter, Jennifer Ayers and husband, Wayne; son, Freddie Jacobs; grandsons, Nicholas Jacobs and Aaron Turner; sister and best friend forever, Anna Murray; sister-in-law, Bea Cassell; brother-in-law, Nicholas Jacobs of CA; godchild and wife of the late Ippy Thomas, Sheila Thomas; several nieces and nephews; cousins, June Thomas, Gene Thomas, and Delores Powers of Suffolk, VA, and Barbara Isaac and husband, Sam, of Louisville, KY; and special friends, Mark and Sara Kageals, Katherine and Ken Anderson, and Dr. Robert Wisman.
The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Malpass for his compassion, counseling, understanding, and all he did for her. A special thanks as well goes to the Pheasant Ridge Nursing Home and staff, for their care and compassion has been greatly appreciated.
At the request of Doris and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place in Memphis, TN 38105 or to the charity of your choice.
