Doris Hull Grinnell, 81, of Salem, VA passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2012. She was born October 20, 1930 in Wytheville, VA daughter of the late Bernard and Gladys Paige Suthers Hull. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Bernard Edward Hull. Mrs. Grinnell was a homemaker, a longtime member of Fort Lewis Baptist Church where she taught the Queen Esther Sunday School Class for several years. In her earlier years she was a teachers aide at West Salem Elementary School and Glenvar High School. She was a faithful wife, mother, grandmother and friend and always put others before herself. She enjoyed cooking and always worried about feeding others. She was always put together, always saw the good in people and was a true servant of God. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 plus years, Leithan O. L. O. Grinnell, Jr.; sons, Leithan O. L. O. Grinnell, III and wife, Lisa and Bernard Sean Grinnell and wife, Emily; daughters, Deanna G. Sheppard and husband, Ronnie and Felicia G. Huff and husband, Ray; grandchildren, Jessica Brimmer, Tara Migliarese and husband, Brian, Jeremy Delp and wife, Tara, Andy Sheppard, Rachel Grinnell, Katherine Grinnell, Luke Grinnell and David Grinnell; great-grandchildren, Madison Brimmer, Cannon Migliarese, Sophia Migliarese and Hampton Delp; very special friends, Colleen Huff and all of her extended church family at Fort Lewis Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am Saturday, February 18, 2012 at the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son, Salem with Rev. Leonard Southern officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 17, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family encourages donations be made to the Fort Lewis Baptist Church Building fund, 4215 West Main Street, Salem, VA 24153 or to the Alzheimers Association, 1160 Pepsi Place, Suite 306, Charlottesville, VA 22901. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Jeannes Elderly Care and staff for the compassionate and loving care given to their loved one. John M.
