Doris Evelyn Wade Basham, 90, of Salem, passed away on Monday, August 27, 2018, at the Richfield Recovery and Care Center in Salem, Virginia. She was born on August 2, 1928, in Roanoke, Virginia, the daughter of Jesse and Hettie Wade. She was preceded in death by her husband, E. Sherman Basham, and her parents. Doris was employed as a secretary for Roanoke Groceries during the early years of her life. For many years, Doris played the organ for churches in the Roanoke and Salem area. She grew up in Belmont Christian Church, Roanoke, Virginia and for many years was involved in their music program. Doris was a member of the Salem Church of Christ, Salem, Virginia and shared her talents in their music ministry. Survivors include a sister and brother-in-law Lois (Wade) and Elwood Jarvis of Salem, Virginia; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gary and Kathy Basham of Vinton, Virginia; nephew, Tim (Michelle) Jarvis; and niece, Cindy (Jason) Francis. She also had numerous great nieces and great-great nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. Bonnie Culkin for her compassionate and loving care given over the past few years. Also, a special thanks to the nurses and staff at The Oaks at Richfield, the nurses at the Recovery and Care Center at Richfield, Lewis Gale Medical Center and Good Samaritan Hospice. The family deeply appreciates all of the cards and visits by friends and the deacons and elders of Salem Church of Christ who provided communion each week. Her celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2018, at John M. Oakey & Son Chapel, Salem, with Mr. David Workman officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Roanoke. Her family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Friday, August 31, 2018 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Salem Church of Christ Missions Fund for Michael Flinchum (Thailand Missionary) at 401 West Main St., Salem, VA 24153 or to Richfield Living at P.
