Donald E. “Rozy” Rozich, 80, of Salem, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on January 16, 2026. Born on September 22, 1945, in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, Rozy later made Salem his cherished home, where he lived a life marked by dedication, humility, and a steadfast commitment to those he loved.

A talented athlete in his early years, Rozy began his hockey career after being drafted by the Detroit Red Wings before going on to play professionally in the Eastern Hockey League, ultimately landing him in the Roanoke Valley to skate for the Salem Rebels and the Roanoke Valley Rebels. His love of sports continued throughout his life—he especially enjoyed playing golf and later worked part‑time at Hidden Valley Golf and Country Club, where he formed many lasting friendships.

Rozy’s kind heart and generous spirit were evident in everything he did. He loved cooking, spending time with his children and grandchildren, and doting on his beloved toy poodle, Gigi. Above all else, Rozy will be remembered for helping others—an attribute that truly defined who he was.

Rozy was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Christine Rozich and brother, Joe Rozich.

He is survived by his loving wife, Essie “Pete” Rozich; his son, Troy Rozich and wife Tiffany, his daughters, Sherry Cruey, Pam Easter and husband Scott, and Kristen Evans and husband Rich; his siblings, Tina Rozich, and Erika Audet; and his eight treasured grandchildren—Tenley, Piper, Parker, Zach, Zane, Colton, Meaghan, and Richie—who brought him immense joy.

To honor Rozy’s memory and lifelong connection to the sport he loved, the family invites friends and community members to join them for a tribute to “Rozy” at the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs hockey game on March 7th at 7:00 p.m.

Rozy’s legacy of integrity, quiet strength, and heartfelt service to others will remain an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
