Donald C. Rainey, a lifelong area resident of Roanoke, passed away on Saturday March 15, 2014. Donald was born in Roanoke, a son to the late Harry C. and Evelyn Rainey. Also preceding him in death is a brother, Harry Eugene Rainey. Donald proudly served his country in the U. S. Navy and worked as a firefighter for the City of Roanoke for almost 31 years. He was also a meat cutter for Kroger for over 30 years. He enjoyed collecting naval memorabilia and was known to be a very hard worker. Donald was a very loving and devoted husband and father. Left behind to cherish his memories are his loving and devoted wife of 49 years, Rita Rainey; son, Matthew Scott Rainey and his wife, Kathy; two grandchildren, Rebecca and Ian; sister-in-law, Brenda S. Rainey of Huntington, W. VA; a niece and cousins. Caregivers and supporters, Mary, Steve, Melinda, Carol, Phyllis, Pauline, Becky A. and Anne Marie. A graveside service to honor the life of Donald C. Rainey will take place on Monday March 17, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Evergreen Burial Park, Roanoke, with Wayne Meadows officiating.
