Donald E. "Donnie" Quarles, 76, of Roanoke, Va., passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. Born May 30, 1949, to the late Geneva E. Secrist and Ryman Quarles, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Joey Secrist and Gary Quarles; as well as a sister, Kathy Secrist.

Donnie served in the United States Air Force before having a career in operations management. He was highly respected among his colleagues for having a strong work ethic, integrity and leadership which gave him the reputation of being a great boss. Donnie married the love of his life, Carol, when he was just 20 years old and was devoted to her until the moment he died, and they certainly lead by example. Donnie was adored by his grandchildren who especially enjoyed his silly sense of humor. Donnie was a huge baseball fan (NY Yankees) and he loved VA Tech football. He was especially proud of his two children who both attended and graduated from VA Tech.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 56 years, Janet Carol Quarles; son, Jason and his wife, Jenny; daughter, Terri and her husband, Mike; grandsons, Sam, Matthew, Michael and Emmett; granddaughter, Ellery; sisters, Anita Duggan and June Meador, and adored sister-in-law, Sue Arrington and her husband, Johnny. Also, many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held to honor Donnie on April 9, 2026. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to his "work", the Adult Care Center of the Roanoke Valley, 2321 Roanoke Boulevard, Salem, VA 24153.
